The Gravy Train
to Deliciousness

by Innovative Community 1 Comment

The local neighbourhood sub joint is quickly becoming a thing of the past with chains like Subway, Quizno’s and Mr. Sub in every major city. But one sub spot continues to defy this trend, with generations of families, and word of mouth continuing to ensure a line up that stretches out the door till 3am every weekend. Belly Buster Submarines, the staple for Submarines in Toronto for well over 20 years.

Why is it, that this small establishment, often referred to as a “dive”, continues to keep its loyal and even new customers, returning again and again? Some would say it their Turkey Bacon or their world famous “Belly Buster”, but I would say it is the owner Chris. Nothing is better then seeing Chris smile as you walk through the door and say, “Hey buddy, how you been? What you want, a turkey bacon?” And it is in that exact moment that you smile, as you know you are home.

It is these moments, combined with seeing all of my pictures on the wall, and the smell of fresh bacon cooking behind the counter, that keeps me coming back. It will always be one of my first stops whenever I get home from my travels, or whenever I am hungry after a night at the bar. So I say, to hell with the term “dive”, just get me back to that spot that smells of yummy bacon and that covers its assorted subs with gravy and mushrooms, Belly Busters, to visit an old friend, but more importantly, to devour a Turkey bacon.

So stop by, say hi to Chris, go see my pictures on the wall, and get ready for a love affair that will stay with you for the rest of your life, of course with a side of salt-pepper-sub sauce.
